Having started theoretically in 1997 when principal songwriter Greg Olson recorded a handful of songs “for posterity” the band has since become just that, a band.
In 2001 Olson released the cd “Wrought” under the moniker “Guilford”, the culmination of several recording sessions. Among the acclaim it received, Jack Rabid of The Big Takeover magazine placed it in “Jack’s Top 40” picks in issue #50.
Jumping forward to 2004, Guilford, having settled into a stable lineup, went back to the studio (this time as a band) to record the “Weak” cd. This lineup consisting of Steve Bongiorno (guitar); Jon Plet (bass); Liam Sullivan (drums) & Greg Olson (vocals, Guitar) then went forward with plans to play a summer’s worth of shows. The addition of Mike Purcell on guitar/keyboards in the autumn has helped flesh out the band’s sound.
Listening to Guilford can be at one time a gentle and yielding experience and at other moments engulfing and overpowering. When describing them some have called to mind artists such as Low, Red House Painters, Codeine & Bob Mould.
As time moves forward so too will Guilford as they seek to further enhance and enrich the songs they play and the ones yet to be written.
